Description: Last updated on 05/14/2021 by ERP.The Airport Overlay Zone District is used to help determine the uses and activities subject to provisions of the Airport Hazard Overlay (AH), Chapter 20.30D of the Thurston County Code. The Airport Overlay Zone District does not change the underlying land use or zoning. It adds a layer over existing zones and includes special additional provisions for development in that area. The intent of the airport hazard overlay zone (AH) district is to identify and establish those areas of the unincorporated rural county which are most affected by the Olympia Airport, to protect the viability of Olympia Regional Airport as a significant resource to the community by encouraging compatible land uses and densities, and to reduce hazards that may endanger the lives and property of the public and aviation users. The airport hazard overlay zone (AH) district identifies a series of compatible use zones designed to minimize such hazards. The overlay covers area in Thurston County and City of Tumwater jurisdictions. Consult with the appropriate City and County code for development requirements for the overlay areas. The layer was updated in February 2008 in conjunction with the Tumwater and Thurston County Joint Plan amendments adopted in 2009.Additional updates were made in May 2021 to capture annexations made by Tumwater in 2006 and 2016.
